Club Alpbach Turkey was founded as an initiative group of European Forum Alpbach in 2007. Since May, 2009 it has been transformed into a legal structure of 'association' under Turkish law with its official name "Avrupa Forumu Dernegi". The registered office of the Association is in Istanbul but its members are from different parts of Turkey. Avrupa Forumu Dernegi aims to provide Turkish students, young academics and professionals with scholarships, enabling them to participate in the European Forum Alpbach and to play an active role in shaping the future of Europe by taking part in European-wide networks and engaging in open-minded discussions with high profile figures from political, business and academic circles of Europe.

EFA NETWORK: South and East European (SEE) Countries Meeting 2011 was held in Zagreb -Croatia in April 15th -17th. The regional meeting hosted members of EFA Network Clubs and Initiative Groups from the region: IG Senza Confini (Slovenian Part), Club Alpbach Croatia, IG Sarajevo, Club Alpbach Belgrade, IG Podgorica, IG Kosovo, IG Skopje, IG Moldova, IG Sofia and Club Alpbach Turkey. In this 3-day event Club Alpbach Turkey was represented by Feyza Basar, the president of the Club. On 15th and 16th April there were one panel discussion "Southeastern European EU Journey" and two special lectures "Cultural pluralism in the EU" and "Croatian Foreign Policy: Challenges of EU Members" accompanied by cultural programmes and get-togethers. The event ended with a City Tour and an excellent lunch in the historical part of the City on 17th April.

Secretary General of EFA met Club Alpbach Turkey in Istanbul

Secretary General of EFA, Mr. Richard Kruspel and his lovely wife met Feyza Basar (president) and Kerem Yalkin (board member) of Club Alpbach Turkey on their visit to Istanbul in September. Over the lunch in an ancient part of Istanbul, Samatya, we talked about the up-coming Forum which is themed as "Justice and Responsibility For the Future" (18 August-3 September 2011) and exchanged views regarding the future projects and proposals of Club Alpbach Turkey.

Club Alpbach Turkey at Alpbach Forum 2010

This year, Club Alpbach Turkey was represented by Feyza Basar, Kerem Yalkin, Seda Teker and Mahur Kazak in the Forum 2010 took place in Alpbach-Austria. During Forum-2010, whose general theme was 'Construction and Reality', Club Alpbach Turkey organised two main events. The first evet was picture exhibition with the title of "Living at the Border" which consists of pictures shot by Kerem Yalkin in the Eastern Anatolia, mainly Kars, Igdir and Agri provinces. The pictures were exhibited on Otto-Molden Foyer at the Congress Centre on 28 August-3 September which coincided with the date of the special Panel on the topic of "Turkey as a Regional Power". The pictures were highly acclaimed by the participants and booklets contaning the exhibited pictures and some non-exhibited ones were given to the participants as a memory of the Forum.

Club Alpbach Turkey organised an international conference on “Free Movements of People between Turkey and EU Countries and Visa Issues” in cooperation with Istanbul Chamber of Commerce on 16 April 2010.

The key note speeches of the Conference were made by Helené Flautre, who is the Co-Chair of the Delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee, and by the Turkish State Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis. Ms. Flautré emphasised that Europe should be saved from its visa paranoid whereas Mr. Bagis stated that the sincerity of Europe shall be judged upon her reaction to the precautionary measures taken by Turkey on visa issues.
